In the winter when it's getting dark at 4 or 5pm I run on roads in the week and do a long run on trails at the weekend. Once it's light after work, I add a couple of trail runs during the week. I used to race triathlons and did occasional 10k's but have only races trail ultras for the last few years. Previous seasons I've signed up for a few 50k's and a couple of 50 milers each season. I have attempted but not finished a 100mi. I usually don't start racing till April or so since I ski a lot in the winter. This year I haven't signed up for anything yet, recovering from an injury and long layoff so the fitness is coming back slowly.
